At 18:00 PM on March 4, the 2019 spring semester orientation ceremony and freshman orientation was held in the lecture hall on the first floor of the College of International Education at Shandong University. Liu Liming and Ma Fengwei, respectively director and deputy director of the Center for International Students and Scholars, Yan Zhen and Zhang Yuan, officers of the Entry-exit Administration Division of Licheng District Branch of Jinan Municipal Public Security Bureau, Wang Lulu, deputy secretary of the College Party Committee, Xu Hejun and Yao Xiaojuan, teachers' representatives, over 50 language students and intercollegiate exchange students attended the ceremony.
At the ceremony, on behalf of the college, Wang Lulu gave a speech and extended a warm welcome and good wishes to the international students. From the beautiful spring scenery of SDU to the Chinese characters with a profound cultural foundation, from the 120 years’ history of SDU to the persistence of Chinese language teaching and cultural communication since the establishment of the College of International Education, all these provided a good enlightening lesson for freshmen to get to know China, become familiar with SDU and enjoy learning the Chinese language. She also gave some practical suggestions and expressed good expectations for the future study and life of freshmen at SDU, hoping they would make achievements in their study in China and have a happy, fulfilling, interesting and unforgettable time studying abroad.
Xu Hejun, as the teacher's representative, made a speech in which she pointed out that learning Chinese is difficult, but no pains, no gains. She encouraged students to be fearless of difficulties, work hard and overcome the language barrier, so as to live a happy, fulfilling and fruitful life overseas. Then, students Ding Luxia from Italy and Li Qiaoqiao from Kyrgyzstan shared their study and life at SDU. They said that China is an ancient, but also modern country with extensive and profound Chinese culture, so people should cherish the opportunity to study here. They also said that teachers here are enthusiastic and patient with a high teaching level. They hope everyone can follow the teacher's pace, learn Chinese, adapt to the Chinese language and culture as soon as possible, and work hard for their own goals!
For the orientation, officer Zhang Yuan made a careful explanation to popularize law to the students and also expressed the hope that all students could abide by Chinese laws and have a legal awareness to build a beautiful campus. Last, Shi Zhenchun and Wang Qinyao, teachers of the Center for International Students and Scholars, lectured on campus safety, passport visa, scholarship, dormitory regulations and other issues.
After the ceremony, all the students have been given a certain understanding and prospect of the upcoming campus life. We believe they will study hard, live happily and make their study abroad colorful!
