On May 9 and 10, the tenth Chinese Competition for overseas students was held in College of International Education. Nearly 2,000 overseas students participated in the competition, which was divided into junior and intermediate special performance and intermediate and senior special performance. Teachers of the Chinese Language Teaching Department served as judges, Xu Guanzhong, college party secretary, Wang Yaomei, Nan Dongzhou, deputy deans of the College of International Education and Wang Lulu, deputy college party secretary attended the competition and awarded the winning classes. The competition consisted of six parts——“Hearsay”, “Icing on the Cake”, “Life and Culture Common Sense Quick Response”, “Pinyin Fan-Tan”, “Check the Box for Treasure” and “Talent Show”. Besides, there was also an award-winning quiz specially arranged for the audience. Every part was knowledge-based and interesting. In the end, junior class 101 and intermediate class 303 won the first prizes respectively.

In the “Hearsay” part for the intermediate and senior special performance, each student relayed the sentence they heard as completely as possible to the next person. Some classes perfectly retold the original sentence, while others ended up with sentences far different from the original one, which drew laughter from the audience. In the “Icing on the Cake” part, every student racked his brains to change a Chinese character into a new one by adding a brushstroke. In the “Life and Culture Common Sense Quick Response” part, students were required to listen carefully to the description from the host. Dong Dong from Thailand answered quickly and accurately, winning cheers from the audience. In the “Pinyin Fan-Tan” part, students are required to quickly say a Chinese word with a certain specified phonetic alphabet as their initials. The contestants are so imaginative. For “h,b”, they constantly gave such answers as “黑笔(hei bi”, “红笔(hong bi” and “黄笔(huang bi”. For “d, y”, there were answers like “导游(dao you”, and even “抖音(dou yin”, a down-to-earth word! In the “Check the Box for Treasure” part, one student took out the objects in the box and described them in Chinese. His partner guessed the name of the objects according to the description. Some groups described accurately, cooperated well and worked effectively. For example, they used the question "What do you need to eat in China?”, and the answer can be guessed quickly. Others would find a different approach some of which were funny. In the following “Talent Show” part, such dynamic songs as Youth, Song of Tomorrow and the adapted Jinan Jinan, classic songs as love each other, the sketch Qu Yuan brought the activity to a climax. Jinan Jinan, with its tone of ridicule, expresses out "Eight o 'clock is too early for class, the teacher gave too much homework to complete", winning thunderous applause. In the award-winning quiz part, students, relying on their resourceful cultural knowledge reserves, were eager to answer every question, thus the competition was full of laughter.

In the “Hearsay” part for the junior and intermediate special performance, the first student accurately memorized the sentence "Learn Chinese well and make friends all over the world. (学好中国话,朋友遍天下)". Although there were problems in time control during the transmission process, the last student also correctly said the four Chinese characters "中国朋友" and got high marks. There were also some Chinese tongue twisters which were difficult even for Chinese, for example, “shi si shi shi si, si shi shi si shi(十四是十四,四十是四十) ”, “liu nai nai zhao niu nai nai mai niu nai (刘奶奶找牛奶奶买牛奶)”which were beyond their abilities. In the "icing on the cake" part, the students of junior 101 did it quickly and accurately, and won warm applause from the audience with up to 80% accuracy rate.  In the “Life and Culture Common Sense Quick Response” part, a boy from junior 101 class quickly answered "What APPs do Chinese people like to order takeout?” —— “Meituan” and “Eleme". In the “Pinyin Fan-Tan” part, students from junior class 201 spoke out “考研(kaoyan”,”烤鱼(kaoyu” and “烤羊(kaoyang” for “h, y”. The audience praised the contestants as "Old China Hands". In the “Check the Box for Treasure” part, two girls of intermediate class 101 from Morocco and Turkey won the first place by virtue of highly tacit understanding, which was warmly applauded by the audience. During the talent show part, the song and dance show brimming with youth Meow Like a Cat, the guitar playing Take you to Travel, the adapted song If You're Happy and You Know It and the traditional Chinese song Jasmine all brought different auditory feelings to the audience. In the end, the chorus of Jasmine expressed everyone's love for Chinese songs and China.

Some students actively participated in charades, on the back of a beautiful postcard there was a carefully thought up charade, students who exactly guessed the right answer could take the postcard away and leave a signature; Students who like calligraphy used a writing brush to write their best Chinese characters on Shuixiebu. Some students were immersed in the fun brought by traditional Chinese puzzle game "Puzzle Ring", some left creative photos at the competition.
