Recently, after expert review and evaluation by the Chinese Service Center for Scholarly Exchange, five courses from the College of International Education—including "Innovative China," "Archaeological China," "Green China," and "Poetic China"—stood out among 54 submissions nationwide. They are part of the first batch of “Study Tour in China” courses funded by the Chinese Service Center for Scholarly Exchange, making Shandong University the institution with the highest number of approved courses.

The "Study Tour in China" program is jointly developed by the Chinese Service Center for Scholarly Exchange and universities or institutions, bringing together experts from multiple disciplines and resources from multiple regions. Through interdisciplinary collaboration, the program offers short-term credit courses that combine classroom teaching, field study, and practical exchange, showcasing spirits of the time, Chinese civilization, and the characteristics of China’s modernization. It aims to comprehensively promote the Study in China brand and achieve high-quality, sustainable development of the study tour programs. At a recent "Study Tour in China" Course Development Conference organized by the Service Center, Dean Ma Xiaole was invited to share Shandong University's early exploration in developing internationalized credit courses and its experience in building a general education curriculum for international students. Her insights received enthusiastic responses from university representatives in attendance.

In recent years, the College of International Education has been actively exploring the cutting-edge demands and innovative practices of international Chinese education within the framework of China's modernization efforts. Faculty members are encouraged to leverage the comprehensive academic resources of the university, using "domain-specific Chinese" as an entry point and the "Chinese+Professional Studies" model as a guiding principle. This approach fosters interdisciplinary integration, contributes to China's global image, and strengthens international communication. Collaborating with schools such as the School of Civil Engineering, School of Nuclear Science, Energy and Power Engineering, School of Archaeology, and Cheeloo College of Medicine, the faculty has developed courses telling the stories of "Civil Engineering China," "Healthy China," "Green China," "Archaeological China," and "Dynamic China." These achievements have been presented at high-profile international conferences such as the World Chinese Language Conference, contributing Shandong University's insights and solutions to the "Study in China" initiative while reinforcing its role as an industry leader.

Looking ahead, CIE will actively implement the 2024-2035 Master Plan on Building China into a Leading Country in Education, further promoting interdisciplinary integration and driving educational innovation to meet the evolving demands for Chinese language learning in the new era. CIE will continue to build a platform for domain-specific Chinese and language-culture integration curriculum, leveraging diverse resources to deepen course development and contribute to the advancement of China's education system and its global outreach.
