Ⅰ. Program Overview
The aim of this program is to cultivate foreigners with good Chinese listening, speaking, reading, writing ability and professional translation ability. After completing their studies, learners can improve their Chinese level, understand the development of Chinese culture and Chinese society, and have strong intercultural communication ability.
According to the students’ Chinese level, which belong to stages of the primary, the intermediate or the advanced level. To ensure quality, teaching will be conducted in small classes of 20 students at the maximum.
II. Eligibility
1. General Requirements
(1) Applicants must be physically and mentally healthy, friendly to China, have no criminal record, and be non-Chinese citizens holding a valid regular foreign passport;
(2) Applicants must possess a high school diploma or above;
2. Applicants must meet the criteria specified in the Notice by the Ministry of Education of Regulating Admission of International Students to China's Higher Education Institutions (Letter No. 12 [2020] of the Ministry of Education).
III.Application Time
The application time for fall semester (September 2025 January 2026) is from March 15, 2025 to June 15, 2025;
The application time for spring semester (February 2026 - July 2026) is from October 15, 2025 to December 31, 2025.
Note: Applicants can choose one semester of language study or one academic year (two semesters) of language study according to their own needs. After the application deadline, no supplementary materials will be accepted. Applicants are advised to complete their applications at least two weeks before the deadline.
IV.Curriculum Provision
The program consists of compulsory and elective courses. The compulsory courses will take about 20 hours each week.

V.Method of Assessment
The weight assigned to the results of each course will be the same as follows: daily performance 30%, the mid-term test 30% and the final test will be 40%.
VI.Application Method
Please visit Shandong University Application System for International Students (http://www.apply.sdu.edu.cn) to register an account and complete the application. Hard copies of application documents are not needed.
VII.Application Documents
Applicants are required to ensure the authenticity and accuracy of the provided application information and materials. If the application information and materials are verified to be untrue, the applicant's application, admission, or enrollment qualification will be canceled.
1.Personal information page of the passport (regular personal passport valid beyond March 1, 2026);
2.High school diploma or pre-graduation certificate (the pre-graduation certificate must be stamped with the school seal, indicating the expected graduation date, and the graduation
certificate must be obtained before the registration date of the corresponding year);
3.Transcript of all high school courses (stamped with the
school seal);
4.Letter of motivation in Chinese or English;

5.Foreigner Physical Examination Form.
Applicants should undergo the examination strictly according to the required items stated in the Foreigner Physical Examination
Form (please download the template from: https://www.istudy.sdu.edu.cn/English/Home.htm- "Download"). Forms will be deemed invalid if they are incomplete, lack attached photos, do not have a cross-page seal on the photo, lack a signature of the attending physician, or are without an official hospital stamp. Please ensure the physical examination remains valid during the application as the result is valid for only 6 months.
6.Certificate of No Criminal Record;
Applicants must submit the Certificate of No Criminal Record issued by local public security management department. It should be valid within 6 months prior to the application date.
7.Scanned copies of the guarantee materials, including: (1) Scanned copies of passport or identification document of the financial guarantor (limited to the applicant or immediate family member); (2) Proof of financial support, with deposits of no less than 30,000 RMB or an equivalent amount in foreign currency.
8.If you are studying at another university in Mainland China, please submit a recommendation letter issued by the International Students Office or the school of your host university with their contact information.
9.Applicants under the age of 18 must submit scanned copies of the following documents:
(1)Guardian statement (please download the template from: https://www.istudy.sdu.edu.cn/English/Home.htm- "Download"). The guardian must be an adult living in Shandong Province, China;
(2)A notarized paper to prove that the applicant's parents have entrusted guardianship to the guardian;
(3)The guardian's ID or passport.
10. Additional supplementary documents required by Shandong University.
Note: All application documents must be in Chinese or English. If the documents are in other languages, the original document and a certified translation in English or Chinese must be uploaded together.
Please use a scanner to scan the relevant documents in color, as documents taken with mobile phones or cameras, as well as photocopies, will not be accepted. Except for the "Foreigner Physical Examination Form" and personal signatures, handwritten documents will not be accepted.
VIII.Examination and Admission
Shandong University will select the best applicants for admission. Video interviews can be a part of the application process for some cases. Admission results can be checked through the SDU Online Application System for International Students. The application results for study in fall will be declared before July 30, 2025, and the results for study in next spring will be declared before January 30, 2026. Shandong University will issue an electronic admission letter and the Confirmation Form for Study in China (JW202) or Short-term International Student's Information Form (DQ) to the admitted students.
IX.Registration
Admitted students must strictly follow the time specified in the admission letter to register at Shandong University. During registration, the original graduation certificate, Foreigner Physical
Examination Form and other required documents will be verified.
Those failing to submit the corresponding certificates will be disqualified from enrollment.
X.Fees
1.Application fee: 400 RMB/person (Please pay the application fee after receiving the pre-admission email. Once the application fee is paid, it will be non-refundable.);
2.Tuition fee: 9,000 RMB/semester, 18,000 RMB/year;
3.Medical insurance fee: 400 RMB/person/semester, 800 RMB/person/year;
Failure to purchase the required medical insurance for international students studying in China will result in the inability to complete the registration procedures at the university.
4.Accommodation fee: Varied based on the room type, typically ranging from 23 to 45 RMB/person/day.
XI.Scholarship
Outstanding international students may apply for International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship or Jinan Sister City
Scholarship.
XII.Visa
Admitted students must take the electronic version of the admission letter and the Confirmation Form for Study in China (JW202) or Short-term International Student's Information Form (DQ) to the Chinese Embassy or Consulate abroad to apply for a study visa. International students studying in China for up to 6 months should apply for an X2 visa. Those studying for more than 6 months should apply for an X1 visa and apply for a residence permit within 30 days after arriving in China.
